After You Sell

We at DavidRealty.com want your move to be as smooth as silk. We recommend you follow these guidelines to make your move easier:

As Soon As Your Home Goes Under Contract
  • Select a moving company and arrange for pickup of your furniture and personal belongings or rent a moving truck yourself.
  • Get all moving supplies together-tape, boxes, rope, moving pads, etc.
  • Lay out your travel route to your new home.
  • Schedule your packing so that the last things that you pack are the items you use most.
  • Get a change of address from the Post Office and have it ready to submit.
  • Notify businesses, friends and family of your move.
  • Notify any federal, state, local authority or agency, if needed.
  • Some expenses are tax deductible, so, keep records/receipts of all moving expenses, including meals, gasoline and lodging.

Two Weeks Before You Move
  • Notify utility companies like, gas, electric, cable TV, water and phone of your move, and arrange for service at your new home.
  • If moving out of town, have your car serviced.
  • Arrange for moving assistance with your friends, relatives and neighbors.
  • Arrange for someone to take care of your pets during the move.
  • Confirm moving company or truck rental arrangements.
  • If you have an old vehicle that may not be worth moving, consider a charity car donation.
  • Leave operating instructions for hot tubs or any appliances.
  • If moving to a rental, purchase a tenants policy for contents/liability only.
  • Transfer your money from local accounts to your new location.
  • Leave self-addressed post cards for the new owners to notify you of news or questions.

The Day Before Moving
  • Keep moving supplies and materials separate so they don't get packed until you're finished.
  • If you're moving yourself, pick up the rental truck.
  • Fill up the car with gas, and oil, and check all fluid levels and tires.
  • Tomorrow's a big day, so get a good night's rest.
  • Cancel your home owner insurance effective closing day.
  • Leave the garage door openers with new owners.
  • Cancel your high speed internet, satellite TV receiver and phone services.
  • If you have money savings at home, remember to take it with you.

These proven guidelines will produce goodwill for the new home owners and their investment.
